But We Heeded Them Not
But We Heeded Them Not
David A. Bednar
Takeaways:
“Living and loving” our covenants creates connections with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ that are deeply personal and powerful. Those connections “are the ultimate sources of assurance, peace, joy, and the spiritual strength” to fear not and “pay no attention to the evil influences and secular scoffing” around us.
In Nephi’s vision of the iron rod, the “ability to resist the temptations and the fiery darts of the adversary” was promised to “those individuals who ‘hold fast to’ rather than merely ‘cling to’ the word of God.”
The word of God is the teachings of the Savior as recorded in the holy scriptures, and it is one of the names of Jesus Christ in the scriptures (“The Word”).
Holding fast means
2) “prayerfully, earnestly, and consistently using the holy scriptures and the teachings of living prophets and apostles as sure sources of revealed truth.”
“Press on. Hold fast. Heed not.”
Questions to Ponder:
What helps you “heed not” worldly influences, mocking, and scorn?
What does “holding fast” to Christ as the Word of God look like in your life? How does it compare to merely “clinging to” the word of God?
Do you live and love your covenants? Can you list the covenants you have made up to this point in your life and do you understand what each covenant entails?
