Lessons at the Well
Lessons at the Well
Susan H. Porter
Takeaways:
Three lessons we can learn from the woman at the well and the Savior’s invitation to drink from His well of living water:
1) “Our past and present circumstances do not determine our future”: despite the woman at the well’s circumstances, she was among the first to be told that Jesus was the Messiah. We can “choose to turn to the Savior today for the strength and healing that will enable us to fulfill all that we were sent here to do.”
2) “The power is in us”: as we strive to honor our covenants, the Lord will bless us with His healing and strengthening power and with spiritual insights and awakenings.
3) “Out of small things proceedeth that which is great”: even in small amounts, salt, leaven, and light affect everything around them. We can, like salt, make small differences that have large impacts on those around us. The power of God in our lives can act as leaven and replace the “spirit of heaviness” with “inspired perspectives that lift others and make room for hearts to be healed.” Our “light of faith in Christ” can pierce darkness and lead ourselves and those around us to safety and peace.

Questions to Ponder:
Ponder the small things you do each day that have a large impact on your life or the life of others.
Think about something that fills your spirit with heaviness. How can the power of God act as a leavening agent with this particular issue?
When do you most feel the “light of Christ” in your life? How can you feel that more? How can you share that light with others?
