The Eternal Principle of Love

The Eternal Principle of Love

Hugo Montoya

Takeaways:

The eternal principle of love is found in the two great commandments: 1) love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength, and 2) love your neighbor as yourself.

We love others because we are brothers and sisters, "children of the same Father."

Love for God might be the first great commandment because we are God's children, we are dependent on him, and His love protects us. But agency is part of his plan, so we are tested and tempted and experience adversity. We need to trust in God to keep his promises and to answer our prayers "according to His infinite mercy and love and in His own time." We can still be happy in bad circumstances because "happiness does not depend on the circumstances but on our attitude toward the circumstances."

God is there for us and loves us sets a good example for how to be a good parent. He is always there for us and he loves us personally and individually.

Quote: "It is not enough to avoid being a stumbling block for others; it is not enough to notice the needy on the road and pass by. Let us take advantage of every opportunity to help our neighbor, even if it is the first and only time we meet him or her in this life." - Hugo Montoya

Questions to Ponder:

"Why is love for God the first great commandment?"

Do you feel love for those around you? For those you minister to? How can you develop greater love for your neighbor (i.e. every other son or daughter of God on this earth)?
